On January 22, 2015, the Lubbock Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a memorandum of understanding with LEPAA to join into a partnership with The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences. This strong partnership will have a great impact upon the Lubbock community by offering students a well-deserved chance in the spotlight, whether it be competing in a UIL competition or participating in a One-Act play.

LISD has upwards of 80% of their students participating in fine arts programs, starting in pre-kindergarten all the way through high school. It is apparent that fine arts are extremely crucial at every level of education, and this new world-class facility will be an excellent way for students of all ages to showcase their talents on the stage. “What better way than to celebrate these students with a world-class facility? Not many kids get to participate, learn, and perform in a facility that you can really call world-class,” said LISD Superintendent Berhl Robertson.

On February 5, 2015, LEPAA held a press conference that announced the approval of the memorandum of understanding with LISD. “This partnership will allow our students to be part of the finest performing arts center that kindergarten through 12th will experience in the state of Texas,” said Dan Pope, President of the LISD Board of Trustees. “The economic drivers are also important to downtown redevelopment, as the performing arts center will bring a lot of people to town for events.”

“LEPAA remains committed to raising funding for the construction of this project through private donations. I can’t think of a better way to serve our community than to build this signature performing arts center for the benefit of our children and for many future generations to come.” said LEPAA Board Chairman, Tim Collins.
